FAQs
What are the next steps after applying?
PIPOL will be reviewing your application. Once accepted, we will reach out to you to have you join a group orientation session where you will learn more about the program and rules of engagement. We may arrange to meet with you as part of reviewing your application.
Once accepted, you will then be matched with a student mentee. We will strive to match you with a mentee by the time we meet for the orientation session.
What are the responsibilities of the mentor?
We will discuss this in more detail during the orientation session. Some of the basic responsibilities are:
- Guide the mentee in setting goals for what they want to learn or achieve
- Give knowledge, advice, motivation, encouragement, and other learning resources to your mentee according to the goals you have set
- Report progress on goals
Whom will I be mentoring?
You will be assigned a student mentee whose needs match the mentorship area/s you have selected in the application form. Our mentees are students from public high schools that PIPOL has a partnership with. Depending on your availability, you can mentor more than 1 student. You can indicate the number of mentees in the application form. We recommend no more than 3.
Do I get to select my mentee?
We will do our best to match you with a mentee based on the answers provided in the application form and our assessment of the students and their needs. We will provide you with non-PII (personally identifiable information) data about your assigned mentee to give you an opportunity to review it and raise concerns, if any, before committing to start the program.
How long is the duration of the program?
We require a commitment of at least 6 hours per month for 6 months of mentoring sessions. Consecutive months are preferred to maintain continuity.
Will PIPOL support me on how to be a good mentor?
Definitely. We will support you with resources we have on hand, including our time and support. We will also arrange for peer sessions with other mentors in order to share best practices and experiences in mentoring.
Where will mentorship sessions take place?
This may take place virtually or in-person. Virtual meetings are the only option for geographically-distanced mentors and mentees. Even for those in the same locality, in light of the pandemic, virtual meetings is a much preferred option. If in-person mentoring is preferred by both mentor and mentee, this should always be conducted in public spaces like libraries or cafes.
